American independence: Indian connection

I was surprised to find that Tipu Sultan, the king of Mysore and perhaps the most technology savvy of all kings India has ever produced, actually sent three ships filled with ammunition in the support of General George Washington. The 4th of July 1776 was a day of celebration both in Mysore and in Washington. Mysore and Morocco were the first states to recognize the USA as independent nation. And in a surprise twist of fate, the same British officer, Lord Cornwallis, who conceded defeat to Washington, actually won the battle against Tipu. Although in the latter case, Cornwallis had the support of the traitors from within India.
