Michael Sandal delivers a one hour version of his famous semester-long series on “Justice”. He mentions that there is a third option to the question of same-sex marriage; government should not have any role in marriage whatsoever. He quotes Michael Kinsley “…let departmental stores and casinos perform marriage if they want”. He draws the parallel that the people who believe in state recognition of marriage, be it homo-or hetero-sexual, are simply trying to procure some sort of aristotlean honor. That’s why I say the best marriage is hemi-sexual, where one person is simply absent.
